Kentucky Grilled Chicken

This is something quite HUGE in the US. Yeah, the fast food nation.

Apparently there’s this KFC coupon named The Oprah Winfrey Show/Kentucky Grilled Chicken Two-Piece Meal Coupon from the site unthinkkfc.com (it has stopped giving out coupons, tho).

It’s funny to see how people response to free stuff. It’s supposedly four coupons per computer using some coupon printer program, however, due to heavy load, they decided to provide a temporary link for a PDF file with the same barcode on the day the offer starts. Oh what a huge mistake!

I read comments in forums that some actually printed 300 pages of the coupons for fun. Since the promotion is for 2 weeks. That’s everyday KFC, and a quick way to obesity and high cholesterol. This is the proof:

Well, we not only have greedy people here, but there’s actually nice people around printing lots and lots of coupons and giving them out to the homeless in their area. How nice of them!

It’s nice to see the that ultimately common grace is still at work :)

Now back to my 70%-course-grade-deciding day tomorrow.

PS: I don’t like the new KGC. Crispy is always the way to go. The thoughts of KFC chicken wings in my city. I can’t wait to go back to Indonesia. I AM OFFICIALLY HOMESICK!!

Easter and Aaahh

What has it been reduced to?

It is sad and disappointing to know that people nowadays do not appreciate or even have the decency to respect the meaning of Good Friday and Easter. No one really cares about Good Friday.,and they care a little bit about Easter because just like Halloween, it’s a National thing in the US. Easter Egg Hunt and the Bunny costume. People don’t even remember what the eggs mean anymore. Don’t even get me started on the bunny which is just like Santa Claus on Christmas Day. And apparently easter egg hunt seems to be more interesting and important than the sermon on that day. Or maybe if Easter falls on Saturday, no one will really come to church.

This makes me miss Singapore so much, despite the hectic and pressing schedules and the principle of “doing nothing is crime”.

Life goes on, with all its ups and downs, joy and sadness, fun and difficulties, vigor and pain because that’s the reality, each is part and parcel of the other. Sometimes it’s depressing to go through so much joy at one time, just to be shattered by a whole day of screw-ups. Depressing to a point that I just want to give up trying, escape to somewhere where I ‘think’ I can have joy all the time. But what I’ve learnt through my many escapism acts in the past is that during ‘escapism’ period, one just felt an empty joy, or a sheer fake joy. So, why escape? Hehe. Maybe too many of those made you ‘immune’ to the drastic changes and just try to move on with a heart full of hopes.

hulu hulu!

I’m an official hulu addict. I watch hulu for lunch, watch hulu for dinner, watch hulu to fall asleep (yeah it really helps)! Who says I’m wasting my time in US? When else can I hulu like this. LOL.

What is hulu?

Hulu.com is a free online video service that offers most updated US famous TV shows legally of course.

And while we’re on mac’s you feel good (Windows users, maybe one day you’ll feel good too when you switch over)… This alpha mac app called boxee is supposedly a kinda social media center, but without friends inside I still got to enjoy its nice interface and its integration with many online sites including hulu, so double YEAY!

Hulu+Boxee! Such a weird name for both :]

Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Today’s a holiday here in US as we commemorate the life of Martin Luther King Jr.

Remember the famous quote:
“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. ”

but anyone knows he also said this:
“I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made straight and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together. ”

Also:
“If a man hasn’t discovered something that he will die for, he isn’t fit to live.”

Google Maps

Since I will be going on exchange to UC Davis next semester, this semester has been quite hell-ish, juggling studies with this and that, and even preparing for the exchange seems to take forever. One of the most important ones was to find a place to live for the 6 months I’m there. Since UC Davis doesn’t really provide us with any housing, or even help us (they just gave us the address which most Davis locals use to find housings), it’s kinda annoying times. There are a few people who joined in my stress and helped me a big deal, like Erlin’s childhood friend Elli, Indra’s Sweden church friend Aileen, and also Indra for just being there to comment. haha.

This house-hunting will not be as successful without the existence of Google Maps. How else am I gonna check the location of my house-to-be, and have it compute the exact distance from the house to campus, and how long it takes for me to walk from there to there.

Not to mention the feature Streetview, which unfortunately doesn’t work in Singapore, but still cool enough to show how the actual place looks like there ;) This makes online housing scams even more difficult, doesn’t it. Well, streetview does more than just show you where it is, you can even trace the path, as if you’re walking there in person. It’s simply cool.
