Now everything that starts with i- sounds cool, or imitative. But whatever, I'm not here to judge their marketing or corporate identity strategy.

With me going back and forth between my iMac, my MacBook and ultimately those super slow and irritating PCs in NUS, something that I once tried months or even years ago sounded more and more attractive: Cloud Computing!

So, have you met icloud?

Nevermind it's Vista-looking (#fail) interfaces, LOL, it's pretty much usable and contain many useful applications. Maybe even more than the school's PCs (another #fail *cough*).

Oh, and you really need IE to run it, as they run limited-ly with Firefox alpha, but well, compared to school's PCs, what could be worse?

The application list can be viewed here

But these are the few points why it is by far the best Web OS available:

Online file system for storing all file types with WebDAV t0 connect to icloud through Windows, Mac or Linux.

Tonnes of productivity applications – Write, Calendar, Mail (compatible with all your email accounts plus a free icloud account), Contacts, ToDo, Calculator, Notepad, Unzip

Photo organizer with sharing capability, media player – iPlay, movie player, and even radio

IM, its own web browser and RSS reader

Well, the subject has nothing to do with me, cos i'm not angry.

Just a simple story of the day. I had just picked up my repaired macbook from school, then to where I parked my bike. So the bike parking place is separated from the street level by a 3-4 person wide walkway. I took out my bike, I cycled slowly to the street level and I met this guy wearing graduation cloak, and other two ladies with him. I cycled really slowly, which is equivalent to me walking with it, I figured cycling with it takes less place, right?

Then the lady just didn't want to move aside, so I decided to stop and let her pass by. I mean it's a 3-4 person walkway, things will be easier for her to just move aside, and for me to go to the street level to cycle home. BUT NOO... she just thought that's her walkway and didn't wanna move aside and best thing she did is to scream at my ear while passing by me. Lecturing me about how bikes should be on the street level. I didn't bother explaining that I just took out my bike to go to the street level. Why bother?

It's exactly this kind of attitude that made the world a worse place to live in (not surprising though). I mean if one would just move aside, everything will be fine. I for one will not compromise who I am by what she did just now. Not letting her ruin my day or changing me into another monster-like angry being just because she screamed at me, unreasonably.

I'm gonna go through my day with a smile. Because I gained the trust of my music TA (who doubted me about plagiarizing *Sob-sob* but in the end gave me 98% on my final essay, my macbook screen is done and of course I'm going home soon. Why should my day be miserable because of that one, unimportant lady? Hehe.

I've learnt to control my anger and not let anger controls me. I think it's a real powerful technique

Why do I need so many Boxee Post?

Like life, you discover the awesomeness of certain things, gradually, in a more surprising way, in a way we can understand the essence, the meaning of the things as a whole.

Okay, a tech post going philosophical.

Now, the 24" iMac is like a personal desktop and a TV as well. Due to the size, the Mac OS X inside and the fact that it is connected to my 1.5 TB external HD and another 500GB portable HD. Anyway, thanks to this I am now able to do many things I couldn't before, see many things I didn't realize before. I had Boxee on my MacBook like since it was first available as beta, when it first has hulu.com inside, until it's removed and left as video feeds. But it has never been THAT useful to me. Pretty cool and slick interface, video feeds, etc etc but I've never really digged up the features and usability further.

Firstly, of course the general interface. The concept behind Boxee is actually a social network, like Facebook and all, but for Media. So you get to see what your friends watched, what they recommended, ratings, etc.

This is the front page:

Then we have the Music section where you can choose for it to be sorted by Artists, Albums, etc.
Here it is sorted by Artists and Boxee automatically searches for the artists' images for you! How awesome is that!

More after the jump

Then we have the Music section where you can choose for it to be sorted by Artists, Albums, etc.
Here it is sorted by Artists and Boxee automatically searches for the artists' images for you! How awesome is that!

More after the jump

Then, of course, the album art is from iTunes and you get to see the list of songs in a nice format With Review, link to Last.FM, Rating, Recommendation etc.

Then, we have the Videos section where it is categorized into Movies and TV Shows. As a lover of TV Shows, I collected a number of TV Series videos in my HD, and after adding my HD as "Source", it was automatically detected, and was sorted out nicely by Boxee! Check this out!

And see how Boxee extracted information from the web about each and every one of the videos. The title and the summary of the show, and title and summary of each episode!

There are section for Pictures too, but that's just normal.

And what's exciting is they have these Application section. You can access many online sources for videos or news. Haha

Don't be fooled by the post topic please.

I mean my dear macbook FINALLY got its makeover, oh well, not really makeover, just a simple cover up of his ugly badly scratched white surface. Okay, you can't notice it from far, but if you look real close, you can see it.

After 2 years plus, my dear macbook finally fell down for the first time, without any cover whatsoever. Plain drop, together with my imation 500GB external HD while I was asleep. Now there's no more gap between my bed and the wall to make sure such tragedy does not happen anymore.

Regular Makeover Price: $49.95

Geek-Luck Makeover Price: $9.37 (Yahoo!)

Anyhoo, after the drop, my ext HD suffered a pretty bad blow too. It's starting to fail, getting too stubborn to stay mounted yet too spoilt to be unmounted. Not to mention there's now difficulties in moving files around. Argh. I desperately need a new ext HD, I can't lose all my important files inside! But, everything costs money lah.

Money, money, money, must be funny, in the rich man's world
Money, money, money, must be sunny, in the rich man's world

It's after my Chinese 3 test. I rounded up my will /membulatkan tekad/ to stay in NUS Central Library until late night to get some studying going. But nanana... it always ends up with some stupid website, some stupid inspiration, and some stupid ideas.

I love retro/popart look, besides those simple ones. And maybe it will look like this.

the geeky garage monthly magazine

And... if it's like from the outerspace, it will most probably look a little bit like this. I'm not making any sense!

geeky flies away

So, people, next time you need to study, bury your head onto your books, not onto your macbook. Remembe Remembe /Inga.. Inga../

Since I'm planning to seriously learn some web design techniques over the holiday, I guess the first plan should be to upgrade and optimize my macbook *umph* which means money. But, hey, I'm planning to get everything back in Medan, where my dad has a computer store.

I've been an ardent Macbook fan since the day I bought it back in my first year after my desktop PC exploded and darkened the whole 5th Floor of Sheares Hall Block A. Anyway, I love Mac OS X, both Tiger and Leopard, I love the speed (but I wanna increase it even more), I love the feelings I get when I look at it, love how they took care of every single detail of the icon, the ease of use, etc etc and I've never once looked back to the times I'm using my desktop PC. Oh well, that's probably because I can run Windows XP on VMWare Fusion seamlessly on my Leopard.

I'm planning to upgrade my Hard Disk Drive from 80GB - 4600 rpm to 250GB - 5400 rpm. Basically I can upgrade it to whatever size I want, given that such internal hard disk drive is manufacture and sold in the market. For the one I planned, I checked the price from HardwareZone and it will cost me around S$120. That is considered very cheap if compared to upgrading to such a size from the Apple store.

For the case of my RAM, I have upgraded it last December from 2x512MB to 2x1GB. Now I'm thinking of maxing it out to 3GB as the maximum is 3.25GB by adding another 2GB memory stick which will cost me probably S$60. I've also learned that we do not necessarily need to have identical memory on both the slots. So YEAY! 3GB! This is probably necessary especially I've been running both Windows and Mac OS X at the same time.

Lastly I've been very interested in iMac, prices start at S$2000++ but I'll leave that to when I grow up and have my own "small" creative design company. Haha. Dream on! (This song got Michael Johns kicked out of AI 7. Jinx?)
