Poof! Hide Your Messy Desktop on Mac OS X

Poof! Hide Your Messy Desktop on Mac OS X

Mar 23

Launch Terminal and type the following:

defaults write com.apple.finder CreateDesktop -bool false

After hitting enter, you’ll want to kill the Finder so that it relaunches and the changes take effect:

killall Finder

All of the files will still exist, but they’re now discretely hidden in your home folder’s “Desktop” directory rather than cluttering up your actual desktop.

To show the Desktop icons again, open the Mac Terminal and type the following:

defaults write com.apple.finder CreateDesktop -bool true

Again, kill the Finder and your icons will show on the desktop as usual.

GMail, Facebook and Apple

GMail, Facebook and Apple

May 21

The three of the most discussed "brand" on tech blogs. Besides Twitter, that is.

Well what's new? GMail is getting more and more far ahead its 'lousy' competitors Ya-boo-hoo and really-not-Hotmail. GMail is totally pwning the rest. Now GMail labs comes with 'Inbox Preview' while your GMail is loading.

While Gmail is loading, a simple, static preview of your inbox with your ten most recent messages is displayed. Turn it on from the Labs tab under Settings, and if you're on a slow connection you'll know from the start if it's worth the wait.

Next up, Facebook. SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM. So many people using facebook, many more scams coming out to steal your passwords and spread the fire, steal others' passwords. Moral of the story, never input your passwords anywhere except the url with facebook domain! OR DON'T SPEND TOO MUCH TIME WITH YOUR DEAR FACEBOOK!

Sites like FBAction.net, FBStarter.com, nutpic.at, bests.at, areps.at, kirgo.at,  simply asks for you to input your Facebook username and password, with a design that looks similar to that of Facebook.

Don’t give this site your information. If you do, it will proceed to send all of your friends a message telling them to go to there, and hence, the scam will continue to spread like wildfire. Just like what happened on MSN.

Lastly, Apple. This is exciting! Techcruch reports that More evidence of the Apple Tablet surfaced today. Woohoo. Another addition to the mac family?

Read about it here: http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/05/21/what-we-know-about-the-apple-tablet-so-far

That's it for the tech update!

Exams, iPhone OS and more…

Exams, iPhone OS and more…

Mar 17

Hohoho!

no, not Santa, but exams are here. Just had one today, didn't really feel like an exam though.

We had a partial power blackout in certain part of the main house and my housemate's room. No internet too. Life without internet is hard! LOL

What else is here? iPhone OS 3.0! Oh well, not really here here as it's due to be released over the summer, but it's total awesomeness, really really really and I can say really till tomorrow but it's better to just check my post here to confirm for yourself http://www.macgeek.co.cc/2009/03/iphone-os-30-whats-groundbreaking-whats-new/

While on "stress-mode" I baked brownies yesterday night, mixed homogeneously till my arm hurted but the outcome was so TOTALLY worth it. I should make brownies for others when I'm back in Singapore. Did I mention that I made a very good beef rawon too? though I get very stingy about the beef portion since it's expensive, but the soup alone is nice! (plus soy sauce, of course)

Oh, I slept only for 2 hours last night but I felt fresh! Haha :D

The Best Apple Ad Ever?

The Best Apple Ad Ever?

Feb 18

You know when you surfed to apple.com, you'll see dynamic/changing ads on the first page everytime you refresh. Over the years, Apple has been designing top-notch advertisement. I think their philosophy is be different, don't look good, look GREAT, advertise with sleek design and further advertisement will be from mouth to mouth (like from this Apple fangirl). Oh, of course the I'm PC I'm Mac ads but I'm pretty sure that's just for fun, not so much for advertising.

Do people get showcased in their ads? They used to be. Now it's more of just product + tag line, or software + features. So, Apple fangirl in action presents you this. Click on it for the original large version. Now all of you can say, "YOU WISH!". Thank you very much.

Hi guys,

I created this yesterday and just pre-launched a new blog called macgeek. Basically, it's blogging about interesting mac-related stuff. It's not really open to public, or publicized or whatever yet. I'm just trying to keep it private till I filled it up with enough interesting blog posts (there are currently only 6) :]

I'm not sure if there are any huge Apple fanboy/girls among my friends but if there is anyone reading this who has the same passion and would like to contribute (voluntarily of course) or if you just have any suggestion of any posts you would like to see, please contact me :]
