GMail, Facebook and Apple

GMail, Facebook and Apple

May 21

The three of the most discussed "brand" on tech blogs. Besides Twitter, that is.

Well what's new? GMail is getting more and more far ahead its 'lousy' competitors Ya-boo-hoo and really-not-Hotmail. GMail is totally pwning the rest. Now GMail labs comes with 'Inbox Preview' while your GMail is loading.

While Gmail is loading, a simple, static preview of your inbox with your ten most recent messages is displayed. Turn it on from the Labs tab under Settings, and if you're on a slow connection you'll know from the start if it's worth the wait.

Next up, Facebook. SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM. So many people using facebook, many more scams coming out to steal your passwords and spread the fire, steal others' passwords. Moral of the story, never input your passwords anywhere except the url with facebook domain! OR DON'T SPEND TOO MUCH TIME WITH YOUR DEAR FACEBOOK!

Sites like FBAction.net, FBStarter.com, nutpic.at, bests.at, areps.at, kirgo.at,  simply asks for you to input your Facebook username and password, with a design that looks similar to that of Facebook.

Don’t give this site your information. If you do, it will proceed to send all of your friends a message telling them to go to there, and hence, the scam will continue to spread like wildfire. Just like what happened on MSN.

Lastly, Apple. This is exciting! Techcruch reports that More evidence of the Apple Tablet surfaced today. Woohoo. Another addition to the mac family?

That's it for the tech update!

birthdays and more

birthdays and more

Mar 13

9th March 09: One year less to live on earth, one year less to live a meaningful life, one year closer to meet my Maker.

Birthdays have always, always been frustrating. I don't really know why, I guess it's just my personal tradition over the years.

It has nothing to do with the people around me, those working so hard, striving out to reach me though I'm unreachable.

I thank those who still stuck by me, though I know I have been a stupid people-repeller all this while.

This year I celebrate my birthday in Davis, CA. A few of the NUS SEP friends asked me out for dinner on Friday, a few days before my birthday as we know we're all gonna be busy around this period, with projects, presentations and finals going on and coming up. We ate at Taqueria Guadalajara, free flow of tortilla chips and many different sauces with any order. I love chips!

On D-day, two of my SEP friends and my housemate surprised me by coming in for dinner while I was cooking cauliflower. Hey, I can cook nice cauliflower, apparently. I also took out the Indonesian curry that I have cooked a few days before and kept in fridge. I cooked tomato-sauced pasta as our meal. Haha, I felt like a housewife already. We baked brownies too, and ate that with 2 tubs of Haagen Dasz caramel-flavoured icecream. It was very very good.

Oh ya, while cooking, my owner came in with our mails and I received a yellow colored envelope with a birthday card inside. Hoho, it's actually from Chuifen, Cindy and the rest of NUS Chem eng gang as well as some other Indonesians. Thanks guys!

I'm gonna skip the part where I had a very bad headache, yes, yet again, and go on to the main purpose of this post.

I bought myself a birthday gift, a domain called patriciapetr.us. I haven't done much with it cos finals are coming up, but I promise I'll make it good. It will contain my lifestreams as well as portfolio. I know one day I had to re-organize all of 'em somewhere somehow and I'm making a commitment that day by buying that domain for USD$0.99 from Webfusion. Cheap but useful :D

But webfusion's support really sucks, I couldn't change the DNS nameservers somehow and I asked them to help me do it. Such a simple thing took them like, 1 day to reply after I sent 2 messages, one last one showing my impatience. The reply was to confirm the nameservers that I want to change to. Alright, so I replied ASAP and asked them to go ahead and do it. They took SO LONG that I ran out of patience, I emailed them asking them why such a simple thing took so long and after that email they helped me do it.

I can't believe they're gonna destroy the reputation by overlooking small stuff. Just because it's 0.99, it doesn't mean that I will not consider their webhosting in the future. Oh well, for this I am pretty sure I will not go for it. I'll stick to dreamhost cos their support, not only is it fast, but also very very helpful. I got a reply in less than a minute after I submitted my suppor ticket!

Okay, I should be done with this post, getting too overwhelmed :P

Before I forget, this is the only e-card I received, and I am really thankful for it. It sums up what I was and probably am going through, actually. I hope for an even deeper faith in God and His plan.
