Poof! Hide Your Messy Desktop on Mac OS X

Mar 23

Launch Terminal and type the following:

defaults write com.apple.finder CreateDesktop -bool false

After hitting enter, you’ll want to kill the Finder so that it relaunches and the changes take effect:

killall Finder

All of the files will still exist, but they’re now discretely hidden in your home folder’s “Desktop” directory rather than cluttering up your actual desktop.

To show the Desktop icons again, open the Mac Terminal and type the following:

defaults write com.apple.finder CreateDesktop -bool true

Again, kill the Finder and your icons will show on the desktop as usual.

Don't Rain On My Parade

Don't tell me not to live, just sit and putter
Life's candy and the sun's a ball of butter
Don't bring around a cloud to rain on my parade

Don't tell me not to fly, I simply got to
If someone takes a spill, it's me and not you
Who told you you're allowed to rain on my parade

I'll march my band out, I'll beat my drum
And if I'm fanned out, your turn at bat, sir
At least I didn't fake it, hat, sir
I guess I didn't make it

But whether I'm the rose of sheer perfection
A freckle on the nose of life's complexion
The Cinderella or the shine apple of its eye

I gotta fly once, I gotta try once,
Only can die once, right, sir?
Ooh, life is juicy, juicy and you see,
I gotta have my bite, sir.

Get ready for me love, 'cause I'm a "comer"
I simply gotta march, my heart's a drummer
Don't bring around the cloud to rain on my parade,

I'm gonna live and live now!
Get what I want, I know how!
One roll for the whole shebang!
One throw that bell will go clang,
Eye on the target and wham,
One shot, one gun shot and bam!
Hey, Mr. Arnstein, here I am ...

I'll march my band out, I will beat my drum,
And if I'm fanned out, your turn at bat, sir,
At least I didn't fake it, hat, sir,
I guess I didn't make it
Get ready for me love, 'cause I'm a "comer"
I simply gotta march, my heart's a drummer
Nobody, no, nobody, is gonna rain on my parade!

The Web I Visit 10 Years Ago

The Web I Visit 10 Years Ago

Sep 02

With the upcoming HTML 5, CSS 3.0 and the already so wide-spread Web 2.0 looking sites, I look back to those websites that I often visit 10 years ago. And just wonder how time and technology has gradually upped our design taste buds that the moment we look at these sites: a total turn-off!

Google

Yahoo

Hotmail

Altavista (one of my fave search engines, 10 years ago!)

Microsoft

Apple

Seems like after all, Apple has the edge all along :) Minimalist at heart!

Ah, thus the change of this wordpress theme as well, towards minimalism, not blind minimalism but a meaningful one!

image835183721.jpgIcy, the replacement for Installer in jailbroken iPhones surprised me with improved design for the installation and download screen. In comparison to Cydia which still shows bunch of codes laymen wouldn't understand lol.

Currently testing another blogging app on iPhone called iBlogger. Apparently following closely the concept behind the well-known mac blogging app called ecto. Interface design-wise still very disappointing according to Apple standard.

Copy, cut and pasting is as easy as a few touch on the screen on this iPhone.
With the OS upgrade to 3.0, iPhone is now far ahead most mobilephones in term of power and capabilities. It truly transcends the common idea of PDA, even blackberry phones to reach a whole new level of sophistication. Simply amazing ;)

Is iPhone just another trend? Yes and no. Why can't someone be pretty and smart as well? Similarly why can't something be good looking and useful at the same time?
