Smile

smile

Glee’s first season ended just last night and well, I should say that I am very satisfied with the songs :) I particularly like Smile, though I would rather interpret the word ’smile’ not by hiding your sadness, but more to the line of ‘hope’. I agree there are just too much insincerity going on in this world and that smiles have been badly abused. Let’s bring the meaning of ’smile’ back to ‘rejoice and keep hoping’!

I like Rachel Berry!

Smile, though your heart is aching
Smile, even though it’s breaking
When there are clouds in the sky
you’ll get by

If you smile through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You’ll see the sun come shining through
for you

Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
That’s the time you must keep on trying

Smile what’s the use of crying
You’ll find that life is still worthwhile
If you’ll just
Smile

God Bless Us, Everyone

Come together one and all
In the giving Spirit
Gifts abound here great and small
Joyously we feel it.

Blessings sent us from above
Guide us on our way
We raise our voice
As we rejoice
Bow our head and pray

A miracle has just begun.
God Bless Us Everyone!

To the voices no one hears,
We have come to find you.
With your laughter and your tears…
Goodness, hope, and virtue

Father, Mother, Daughter, Son
Each a treasure be.
One candle’s light
Dispels the night;
Now our eyes can see

Burning brighter than the sun.
God Bless Us Everyone

The miracle has just begun!
God Bless Us Everyone!

Come together one and all
In the giving Spirit
Gifts abound here great and small
Joyously we feel it.

Father, Mother, Daughter, Son
Each a treasure be.
One candle’s light
Dispels the night;

Now our eyes can see
Burning brighter than the sun.
God Bless Us Everyone
The Miracle has just begun!
God Bless Us Everyone!

Show Asher Book Some Love!

It’s funny, the other day I met an Indonesian in San Francisco named Asher, and I thought how unusual for a name. Who knows, the same name showed up in the movie Fame!

Anyway, after loving the husky, manly voice that is James Morrison, it’s time for sweet, soft, soothing voice of Asher Book.

Both of the songs below are the original soundtracks of Fame (2009).

Try

If i walk would you run
If i stop would you come
If i say you’re the one would you believe me
If i ask you to stay would you show me the way
Tell me what to say so you don’t leave me
The world is catching up to you
While your running away to chase your dream
It’s time for us to make a move cause we are asking one another to change
And maybe i’m not ready

But i’m trying for your love
I can hide up above
I will try for your love
We’ve been hiding enough

If i sing you a song would you sing along
Or wait till i’m gone, oh how we push and pull
If i give you my heart would you just play the part
Or tell me it’s the start of something beautiful
Am i catching up to you
While your running away, to chase your dreams
It’s time for us to face the truth cause we are coming to each other to change
And maybe i’m not ready

Someone to Watch Over Me

There’s a saying old says that love is blind
Still we’re often told, “Seek and ye shall find”
So I’m going to seek a certain lad I’ve had in mind
Looking everywhere, haven’t found him yet

He’s the big affair I cannot forget
Only man I ever think of with regret
I’d like to add his initial to my monogram
Tell me, where is the shepherd for this lost lamb?

There’s a somebody I’m longing to see
I hope that he turns out to be
Someone who’ll watch over me
I’m a little lamb who’s lost in the wood
I know I could always be good
Someone who’ll watch over me

Although he may not be the man some
girls think of as handsome
To my heart he carries the key
Won’t you tell him please to put on some speed
Follow my lead, oh, how I need
Someone to watch over me

Stupid Song Stuck In My Head

Sorry for calling this song stupid. But it is stupid. Entertaining, nevertheless.

Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows,
Everything that’s wonderful is what I feel when we’re together,
Brighter than a lucky penny,
When you’re near the rain cloud disappears, dear,
And I feel so fine just to know that you are mine.

My life is sunshine, lollipops and rainbows,
That’s how this refrain goes, so come on, join in everybody!

Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows,
Everything that’s wonderful is sure to come your way
When you’re in love to stay.

Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows,
Everything that’s wonderful is what I feel when we’re together,
Brighter than a lucky penny,
When you’re near the rain cloud disappears, dear,
And I feel so fine just to know that you are mine.

My life is sunshine, lollipops and rainbows,
That’s how this refrain goes, so come on, join in everybody!

Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows,
Everything that’s wonderful is sure to come your way
‘Cause you’re in love, you’re in love,
And love is here to stay!

And not forgetting a LOL scene from the show:

lol

Another Morrison Love

I think I’m more and more addicted to James Morrison’s voice. All thanks to my lil bro who first introduced him to me :)

anderson

Alrite, the picture is almost 17 years old, but yeah, just to show ppl that the way to identify my siblings are through the ulat bulu/thick eyebrow. Imagine how thick it is after 17 years time. Thicker than mine!

I love my lil bro! :)

anyway, after digressing, here it is… another Morrison love

Broken Strings (featuring Nelly Furtado)

Let me hold you
For the last time
It’s the last chance to feel again
But you broke me
Now I can’t feel anything

When I love you,
It’s so untrue
I can’t even convince myself
When I’m speaking,
It’s the voice of someone else

Oh it tears me up
I try to hold on, but it hurts too much
I try to forgive, but it’s not enough to make it all okay

You can’t play on broken strings
You can’t feel anything that your heart don’t want to feel
I can’t tell you something that ain’t real

Oh the truth hurts
And lies worse
How can I give anymore
When I love you a little less than before

Oh what are we doing
We are turning into dust
Playing house in the ruins of us

Running back through the fire
When there’s nothing left to save
It’s like chasing the very last train when it’s too late

Man in the Mirror Morrison Style

I’ve been listening a lot to James Morrison’s version of MJ’s Man in the Mirror.

Rugged voice plus Michael Jackson’s classic tune. So lovable :)

Minimalism

Nope, this is not a design post.

I went to my last Music lecture today and apparently the last topic or kind of music discussed is called Minimalism. Honestly, in design, minimalism is understandably cool. But in music, I just can’t get it. Especially music by Terry Riley . This is a famous piece by him, called “in C” as in the key C. It’s a piece which can be played by as many people as possible, only repeating the note C over and over again with several ornamentations/variables. Weird. Listen to it here

And to my surprise, Minimalism music is in opera as well. Not gonna start blabbing about music here. But something that made me LOL in class (well, LOL in my head, at least) is this Minimalism opera by John Adams called Nixon in China. Not really LOL-ing at the music, but more at the casts.

The story line is about how US President Nixon and his wife, Pat, went to China to visit Chairman Mao ZeDong. The opera people try to dress up and make up as Chinese in China. Seems like besides powdering their faces to look paler, they added another VERY IMPORTANT Chinese feature to their faces. Yeap, it’s the infamous, legendary ulat bulu! Every single man and woman has them, and so thick! I don’t think Chinese nowadays are like that. Except, certain people. *cough* *cough*

So here it is, Nixon in China, taken from Youtube:

Hymns for the Souls

I’ve been holding up this post for quite some time. Decided to not wait any longer :D

So sometime back in April, I created this small blog containing hymns. As most of you have or maybe not known that I’m a HUGE hymns lover, and personally have been strengthened by both the music and words from hymns in times of dryness. I’ve planned for a hymns blog for quite some time and finally realized that idea in April.

Inside the hymns blog, there will be lists of hymns titles with their authors and composers, some stories behind the hymns and also accompanying instrumental and sung hymns. This is supposedly a personal blog, but I would like to share it to whoever thinks that they are also hymn lovers, or might want to give hymns a try, or want to know what’s the big deal about hymns, or why is Pat such a weirdo.

Any suggestions to improve the blog will be welcomed with open arms ╭(^ o ^)╮

btw the site is at http://www.geekypat.com/hymns
